After 1,500 name submissions and more than 6,700 votes on the final five, including more than 800 from offshore, Hawke’s Bay Airport proudly reveals Judy Drench as the name of its brand new fire truck.
We’ve been absolutely blown away by the public interest and participation, says Wendie Harvey, Chair of Hawke’s Bay Airport.
“This competition has been great fun; the Hawke’s Bay public has really gotten onboard, submitting names and then voting on the final five. We’ve also attracted votes from 40 countries offshore, which is unexpected, but really exciting.
“We couldn’t be happier with the response.”
Right from the start, Judy Drench has been a clear fan favourite, and took out more than 62% of the votes, says Mrs Harvey.
“And just like the grand dame who inspired the winning name, we are looking forward to our Judy Drench having a long and stellar career with Hawke’s Bay Airport,” says Mrs Harvey.
Judy Drench begins service this month and has an expected service lifespan at Hawke’s Bay Airport of around 25 years. The submitter of the winning name received a $500 travel voucher.
