Christmas in the air at Hawke’s Bay Airport

Visiting family in Australia, a hug from an aunty, and a trampoline are top of the Christmas wish list for those passing through Hawke’s Bay Airport this year.

The terminal has been decked with Christmas trees, and the airport’s passengers have been busy decorating them with bauble stickers bearing their Christmas wishes.

Customer Experience Manager Judi Godbold says the idea is to bring a smile to those coming through the airport in December.

“We wanted to add a touch of festive spirit but couldn’t imagine plastic trees suiting the space in our new terminal, so we opted for plywood trees that we could use year after year.”

The trees are designed to double as an interactive experience, with visitors encouraged to write their Christmas wish on bauble and add it to one of the six trees around the terminal.

“We’ve already seen a few special wishes from people wanting to see friends and family overseas and behind the Auckland border, and we’d love to see more of what our community is wishing for this year.”

Ms Godbold says there will be a few more surprises in store for those travelling over the holiday period.

“We want to add an unexpected sprinkling of joy into our passengers’ journeys, so families visiting the airport may come across elves dishing out Christmas treats or hear a local operatic group singing some Christmas classics.”

Ms Godbold says a visit to the airport should be a great experience even if you’re not travelling.

“Hawke’s Bay Airport is for everyone – come down and see the Christmas grotto, put your wish on the tree, and take in the action on the runway.”

Notes: Project Prima Volta will be performing 20-23rd December.
