Hawke’s Bay Airport has brought forward the start time for its 60th anniversary Run the Runway event, with the starter’s horn now scheduled for 6pm, Saturday 1 February.
Instead of being staged after the last flight, Hawke’s Bay Airport will now hold Run the Runway in the two hour window between the last two flights of the day, says Judi Godbold, Manager Marketing and Business Growth at Hawke’s Bay Airport.
“The flight schedule allows for a perfect window of opportunity for runners to hit the course for an even better Run the Runway experience.
“The light will be better, and there’s the added thrill of running on the runway before the final flight comes in.
“More than a third of the available slots are already taken, and we encourage anyone thinking of entering to get in early to avoid disappointment, as places are limited. Entries close on Monday 20 January.”
The event will be timed, with prizes for the top male and female competitors. Hawke’s Bay Airport is a 24/7 operation; for safety reasons Run the Runway places are strictly limited and entry is restricted to adult runners. The entry fee is $20, with all entry fees collected going to youth development organisation Graeme Dingle Foundation Hawke’s Bay.
Because the event is being held at an operating aerodrome, Run the Runway could be cancelled on the day due to: aeromedical requirements, flight delays, or weather conditions. If the Airport cancels the event, entry fees will be refunded.
