Jon Nichols
Chair
Jon’s background is in finance and commercial growth initiatives with over 30 years’ experience. His strengths include strategy development, risk management, collaborations, infrastructure life cycle management and capital structuring. As an experienced director and consultant, he has led and overseen many strategic and operational initiatives across a variety of private, public and not-for-profit entities. His current directorships include Ngawha Generation, Top Energy, Eastland Generation and Unison Networks. Jon is also the independent chair of risk and assurance at Maungaharuru Tangitu Trust.
Wendie Harvey
Director
Wendie was appointed to the board in July 2016 following an extensive legal career specialising in employment law and human resource management. She brings more than 25-years of experience as a lawyer, executive manager, business consultant and professional director.
Wendie’s governance career reflects her interests in strategy development, infrastructure management, and health and safety promotion in the workplace. Her directorships include Port Taranaki Ltd, Eastland Group Ltd, Aurora Energy and TAB NZ. Wendie also serves as a member of the Hawkes Bay Regional Agency, an oversight board formed in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle which struck the region early in 2023.
Craig Barrett
Director
Craig joined the board of Hawke’s Bay Airport Limited in 2022. He is a director at Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Chartered Accountants in Hamilton and has many years’ experience in delivering accountancy, strategy, and leadership advice to clients across a range of entities and sectors, including particular expertise working with Māori organisations.
Craig is passionate about innovation and value adding to the improve economic performance of the organisations he is associated with. His current directorships include Hineuru Holdings, Ahuahu Group (Ngati Maniapoto commercial entity), Waikato Tainui Group Investment Committee, Te Waka Waikato’s regional economic development agency.
Darin Cusack
Director
Darin joined the board in December 2022, as representative for shareholder councils Napier City and Hastings District. He brings more than 20 years’ experience in airports and aviation leadership and director roles to HBAL.
Darin brings a background in aviation, transport and tourism, having held chief executive and senior executive roles across airport, air navigation, aviation security and airline organisations throughout New Zealand and the Pacific region.
His current directorships include Airways New Zealand, Auckland One Rail, ACL Ltd Canterbury Cricket Association, and Youth Association of New Zealand. He also is an Independent Chair supporting Auckland Transport and Te Whatu Ora strategic projects.
Rochelle Ham
Chief Financial Officer
Rochelle came on board as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Hawke’s Bay Airport in February 2023, enriching our leadership team with her extensive expertise in finance and operations. Her career before joining the Airport was marked by notable achievements in senior roles within the food manufacturing industry. In these positions, Rochelle leveraged her exceptional skills to spearhead and realise strategies for business growth strategies, operational enhancements, and robust financial performance.
Rochelle is enthusiastic about collaborating with the Airport team to foster a sustainable future, keenly focusing on leveraging emerging technologies whilst driving a sustainable future. Rochelle’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to excellence are instrumental in steering the Airport towards achieving its strategic goals and financial success.
Deb Suisted
Operations Manager
Deb loves working in the dynamic and challenging airport environment. With an acute understanding of large and small-scale airport operations, in both the domestic and international setting, she takes a considered and adaptive approach to her role at Hawke’s Bay Airport. Her diverse background in aviation security, regulation, law enforcement, emergency management and many years in the accommodation and tourism sector as a small business owner delivers a holistic approach to her role at Hawke’s Bay Airport.
Deb is as passionate about safety and security as she is about people. Contingency planning and leading teams through change are two areas in which Deb thrives.
Gavin Carey-Smith
Senior Asset & Infrastructure Manager
Gavin joined the Airport team in March 2023, bringing with him extensive expertise in engineering, project management, asset management, and facilities management. His professional journey includes senior positions in New Zealand, the United States, and more recently as a Facilities Operations Manager at Health New Zealand.
As a dedicated professional Engineer, Gavin has always been deeply passionate about infrastructure and engineering projects. His impressive track record includes successfully completing numerous multimillion-dollar projects. This passion has propelled him into senior leadership positions within related fields allowing him a pivotal role in establishing well-structured Facilities and Infrastructure Management Teams.
Gavin is motivated by a strong desire to achieve successful business and project outcomes by utilising his communication and planning skills. Joining the zealous team at Hawkes Bay Airport presents an exciting opportunity for Gavin, as he contributes to the ongoing strategic development planned for the airport.
In his personal life, Gavin resides in Havelock North, Hawkes Bay, with his wife and three children. He enjoys volunteer work, both locally and internationally, combining his technical experience and his passion to support others.
Judi Godbold
Business Development Manager
Judi is a seasoned brand, marketing, and customer engagement strategist with a rich international career spanning 18 years across four countries: England, Australia, Singapore, and her home, New Zealand. With a formidable track record of cultivating relationships to drive commercial success, Judi is renowned for her dynamic approach and her ability to craft winning strategies for prominent global entities like Netflix, InterContinental Hotels Group, SAP, and Changi Airport Group.
An advocate for the aviation industry’s growth, she is deeply invested in the progress of Hawke’s Bay Airport and its pivotal role in the community. Judi’s expertise in enhancing customer experience translates into her vision for the airport, which she sees as a cornerstone for local enterprise development. For Judi, Hawke’s Bay Airport is more than an infrastructure; it’s a beacon of regional pride, embodying local charm and personality.
Governance
The board is responsible for the corporate governance of Hawke’s Bay Airport Limited (“The Company”). The term “corporate governance” means the control of the business by the Directors, and the accountability of the directors to the shareholders and others, for the performance of the Company and compliance by the Company with laws and standards.
