Hawke’s Bay Airport’s extended secure carpark will officially open today (22nd October). This expanded facility will provide visitors with an additional 142 secure carparks, almost doubling the previous capacity to a total of 293 spaces in the secure area.
The new carpark includes smoother surfacing, improved lighting, trolley bays, 50 new baggage trolleys landscaping and wide footpaths to the terminal.
The main carpark has recently also undergone an upgrade with new clearly marked footpaths to the terminal, additional car park spaces and trolley bays. Work is planned for the northern end carpark to be re-surfaced and completed by the end of January 2017.
Many of the improvements made to the carpark facilities are as a direct result of proactive customer feedback and also through a public survey conducted by the Airport company earlier in the year asking for feedback on the facilities.. Significant investment has been undertaken to ensure the carpark can accommodate the growing number of passengers travelling and visitors to the Airport.
As a result of the significant capital investment in a much-improved carparking experience, prices will be increased explained Hawke’s Bay Airport Operations Manager Olivia Pierre.
“Further planned capital investment for the new terminal and the new Airport entranceway, will ensure that that Airport is a welcoming and memorable Gateway to Hawke’s Bay that offers world-class facilities for passengers and visitors. It’s very exciting for the Bay,” said Ms Pierre.
As from 1 November 2016, the new Hawke’s Bay Airport car parking rates will be:
Main Carpark Prices as of 1/11/16
15mins-1 hour $3 (previously $2)
1hr+ $3 per hour charged in whole hour blocks up to $15 for the 1st Day
1st Day (24 hours) $15 (previously $10)
2nd Day $12 (previously $10)
Secure Carpark Prices as of 1/11/16
0-15 minutes $0
1st Day $18 (previously $12)
2nd Day $18 (previously $12)
Ms Pierre went on to explain; “We appreciate and acknowledge the price increase isn’t great news for our customers but we do hope the public can see the need for the upgrade to the facilities was very necessary especially as we strive to improve visitors experience to the region.”
“The customer survey we ran earlier in the year provided us with a great insight into what people wanted at the Airport and we have implemented 90% of these fantastic suggestions, with the remaining suggestions to be delivered in the new terminal development, for example, moving the car parking payment machines outside the terminal, improving the restroom facilities and offer more seating inside the terminal. Outside of the upgrade to the carpark facilities, we also now offer Paywave payment facilities and from early November there will be free Wifi at the Airport,” said Ms Pierre.
Phase three of the carpark upgrade is the re-surfacing of the north end of the main carpark facilities with work scheduled to begin late Dec 2016 and will be completed by mid-January 2017. The public is advised that some disruptions may be experienced, however the aim will be to keep this to a minimum. There will be clear signage alerting visitors. Hawke’s Bay Airport wishes to thank the public in advance for their patience while these necessary improvements happen.
